Compare the Garmin T 5X and TT 15X collars for working dogs. Understand key differences in size, fit, and compatibility with your Alpha system.
Quick Answer
The Garmin T 5X and TT 15X collars are both part of the Garmin Alpha series, designed for off-leash tracking and training. The main difference is size: the T 5X fits dogs with a neck girth of 14-24 inches, while the TT 15X fits 18-28 inches. Choose the T 5X for medium dogs and the TT 15X for larger breeds or dogs with thicker necks.
Understanding the Garmin Alpha Collar System
The Garmin Alpha collars are a handheld GPS tracking and training collar system widely used by hunters and government agencies who utilize off-leash operations. The T 5X and TT 15X are the replacement straps for the collar units, allowing you to fit the electronics to your dog's neck. Both are designed to replace the standard plastic strap and perfectly fit into the collar unit.
Key Differences Between T 5X and TT 15X
The primary difference between the T 5X and TT 15X is the size range. The T 5X is designed for dogs with a neck girth of 14 to 24 inches, making it suitable for medium-sized working dogs. The TT 15X accommodates larger dogs with a neck girth of 18 to 28 inches. Both collars are made from durable materials and are compatible with the same Garmin Alpha electronics, so your choice depends entirely on your dog's neck size.
Trade-offs at a Glance
- Size Range: The T 5X fits necks 14-24 inches; the TT 15X fits 18-28 inches. If your dog is between sizes, the TT 15X offers more adjustability for larger builds. Measure your dog's neck girth carefully before choosing.
- Comfort vs. Durability: Both collars replace the standard plastic strap with a more comfortable fabric option. The T 5X is lighter for medium dogs, while the TT 15X is built wider for larger dogs. A wider strap distributes pressure better on heavy-chested breeds.
- Compatibility: Both collars are designed to fit the same Garmin Alpha electronics. The choice does not affect tracking or training functionality. Your decision is purely about fit, not features.
